At New Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic we apply years of education and experience in Chiropractic care to the expert specialized treatment of conditions ranging from headaches to whiplash and neck pain, scoliosis, low back pain, sciatica, and extremity joint, (upper and lower limb), problems.
Because the effectiveness of Chiropractic comes from an exacting analysis, when you initially come to us we ask that you allow 90 minutes of your time to full out our comprehensive health survey of your previous health conditions and current problem(s), for us to talk through your presenting complaints and history, for a physical examination, for any x-rays if they are considered necessary, and a discussion of what we can conclude about your problems.
If you have any previous x-rays, CT or MRI scans, medical reports, current medications, etc., please bring them with you if you can.
If we consider your problems are likely to be helped with chiropractic care we will offer that, and discuss what you may expect from that care, time frames, etc. If, however, we consider that your problems would be best served by another health professional we will assist you to that service. Chiropractors are trained to identify health conditions that require medical referral and follow up.
New Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic is very much an acute care musculoskeletal based practice, which means that we attend to that problem that is giving you pain from the joint, nerve, muscle, tendon, ligament, etc., (the cause), and restore function to alleviate your pain. Note that it is very seldom that a joint is “out of position” that causes spinal problems, but rather a loss of function of the joint, which in turn affects the neighbouring soft tissues and nerves.
Because of our emphasis on acute care cases we specialize in sports and work injuries as well as falls, etc. from all walks of life, and, as such, we deal with all ages (from 0 to 99!) in New Plymouth.
For further follow-up appointments we ask that you allow 30 minutes for us to assess your progress and current status and provide treatment. Since we recognize that no two people respond exactly the same to even apparently identical problems, we will not give you a pre-arranged programme of treatment to follow, but we will assess your problem at each consultation because no two people are the same, - we have different needs, different lifestyles, and different bodies!
Therefore it is also very important that you tell us what you experience with your Chiropractic treatment so that we can modify and fine tune your treatment to suit you individually and enhance the maximum results that you can achieve from Chiropractic.
Of course many patients decide that they wish to have maintenance care of their newfound function and freedom and find that 3, 4, or 6 monthly care, (depending on the condition of their spine), maintains their spinal function, strength and integrity. That is entirely your choice. We are more than happy to provide short-term care for short-term solutions, or long-term care for long-term results! If you maintain your teeth, then it only makes sense that you should maintain your spine, as, if you don’t you can get dentures, but you can’t get a false spine! At New Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic, we see the results of many poorly maintained spines, but we also see the difference that a little “spine care” maintenance from our spinal adjustment treatments can make!
At New Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic we have our own modern X-ray suite available as Dr Haldane is qualified to take and read x-ray films. X-ray investigations are only performed when clinically indicated, as are all the examination procedures, tests and any further investigations performed at our clinic, or ordered from outside our clinic.
X-ray is treated like any other investigation/examination at New Plymouth Chiropractic clinic in that we have no “routines”. What we do is determined by what you tell us, and what we find along the way. Therefore whether or not we need any x-rays, and how many, to determine the cause of your problems, will be discussed with you at the time.
If X-rays are required it is certainly very convenient, (especially with acute cases), to be able to do them immediately within the clinic, and they are developed immediately by our modern automatic processor, meaning there is no delay in forming an accurate diagnosis and starting treatment immediately if that is appropriate.
We do however put huge emphasis on taking the time to make a thorough informed diagnosis before we consider what treatment may or may not be appropriate for you.
To hold a licence to take X-rays in New Zealand is governed by the National Radiation Laboratory, and restricted to duly qualified practitioners.
